Doncaster’s, Brandon Jackson returns to Caged Steel on Saturday 4th July at Doncaster Dome, but fans can expect to see a very different athlete this time around.

Known previously for his boxing background, Brandon has spent the last few years developing new skills and stepping outside of his comfort zone. At Caged Steel 43, he’ll compete in Caged Kickboxing (K1 Rules), bringing a more complete striking game into the orange canvas. Tickets are available to buy here.

In a recent interview with Caged Steel CEO Dominic Gibbs, Brandon spoke openly about his journey, the challenges of learning a new sport and how the experience has changed him as both a fighter and a person. Read more below. This blog is sponsored by Caged Steel partners Dolphin ICT.

From Boxing To Kickboxing

For many fighters, making the jump from boxing into kickboxing can be difficult. The stance changes. The movement changes. The threats change. Speaking with Dominic Gibbs, Brandon explained that his introduction to the sport happened almost by accident.

A friend had been attending personal training sessions at the gym and encouraged him to come along. What started as a single session quickly became a daily commitment.

“I did one PT session and since then I’ve been in here twice a day, every day. I’ve not looked back.”

Since then, Brandon has immersed himself in the sport and has become a regular face in the gym, determined to see how far he can take his combat sports journey.

Learning The Hard Way

One of the biggest adjustments for Brandon has been changing his stance. Boxers typically adopt a side-on stance that helps maximise punching opportunities and defensive movement. In kickboxing, however, that same stance can leave the lead leg exposed to devastating leg kicks.

“It’s probably the biggest difference for me. That’s what took me the longest to get around.”

And Brandon quickly learned the consequences. He recalled taking one of his first proper leg kicks and seeing his entire lead leg turn black with bruising. Rather than being discouraged, he saw it as a valuable lesson.

“It reminded me to stay humble about the sport. I realised I was completely out of my comfort zone.”

That willingness to learn has been a key part of his development.

A Different Brandon Jackson

One of the most noticeable changes during the interview wasn’t technical. It was Brandon’s mindset. Fans who have followed Brandon’s previous appearances will remember a confident young fighter who never lacked self-belief. That confidence is still there. But spending time surrounded by experienced fighters and coaches has given him a new perspective.

“I’m humbled. I’m just happy to be here. I’m grateful to be in this position where I can keep fighting.”

Dominic noted that Brandon seems calmer and more grounded than in previous years. Brandon agreed that being part of a strong gym environment has helped him grow both inside and outside of competition.

Still Dangerous

Don’t mistake Brandon’s new outlook for a lack of intensity. When asked about his plans for fight night, the answer came quickly.

“I’m still the same kid and I can still fight.”

His goal remains simple. Put on a performance. Entertain the fans. And leave a lasting impression inside the cage.

Why This Fight Matters

One of the most exciting things about combat sports is watching athletes evolve. Brandon Jackson represents exactly that. Fans who have watched him box before will now get to see the next chapter of his journey as he tests his developing kickboxing skills under the bright lights of Caged Steel.

The technical improvements are obvious. But perhaps more importantly, so is the personal growth. That’s what makes this fight such an interesting one to watch.
