Caged Steel 39 is shaping up to be a brilliant night of MMA fights, and we’re proud to announce that professional welterweight Gavin Lofts has officially signed to compete on the March 29th card at Doncaster Dome. A true talent from Grimsby, Gavin (Gav) is a battle-hardened athlete with nearly two decades of experience in combat sports.
From Karate Kid to Pro MMA Fighter
Gav’s martial arts journey began at a young age when he first took up karate. His passion for combat sports grew over the years, and he soon found himself drawn into MMA. It wasn’t just the sport that caught his attention – it was in his blood. His uncle, Neal Lofts, was the first person in their town to train in MMA, and Gav naturally followed in his footsteps.
Now, at 39 years old, standing at 6ft 3, Gav has crafted his own path in the sport, building a reputation as a rangy, high-energy striker who thrives on the thrill of competition. With a professional record of 2 wins and 2 losses, he’s looking to make a serious impact at Caged Steel 39.

A Fighter’s Mindset
What keeps Gav pushing forward after 19 years of training and 17 years of competing? Simply put: his love for the fight. For him, it’s not just about stepping into the cage – it’s about constantly improving, testing himself against the best, and embracing the challenge that comes with every bout.
His fight style is built around his natural reach, striking ability, and relentless mentality. Fans can expect an all round exciting performance when he steps into the cage on fight night.
The Team Behind the Fighter
Gav is backed by a high level, experienced coaching team at Fight Ministry Humberston, a gym that has been home to some of the region’s top talent. His support system includes:
- Neal Lofts (Head Coach): His uncle and the mastermind behind his growth in MMA. A hardworking, knowledgeable coach who keeps the team evolving.
- Neil White (BJJ Coach): Brings the same level of dedication and knowledge to the ground game.
- Andy Blackett (Boxing Coach):A technical expert with a deep understanding of boxing, pushing Gavin’s striking to the next level.
- Neil Jones (Strength & Conditioning/Sports Therapist): Known as “The Magician,” he prepared Gavin for his professional debut at 37, proving that age is just a number.
- A strong core of additional coaches, fighters, and cornermen who complete a powerful and well-rounded team.

Beyond the Cage
Outside of fighting, Gav is a sports teacher at a college, where he organises trips and keeps his students engaged with sport. His students all know about his MMA career, often chatting with him about his fights and watching them on YouTube. He even runs a kickboxing club for kids at school, helping to inspire the next generation.
And when he steps into the Caged Steel cage on March 29th, he won’t be alone supporters from his hometown will be in the crowd, cheering him on!
